Some of the biggest problems with toaster ovens are as follows. They don’t have enough power, they don’t heat up hot enough, they can’t maintain the correct temperature.
That’s the problem with cheap toaster ovens…they are not really good for much of anything.
Although some have made some improvements, it’s not until when Breville came into the picture that really made an impact.
They see that a high quality toaster oven has the potential to do much more than making some toasts.
Let’s see if they’ve succeeded.
1800 Watts Heating Power. I think that’s the most powerful, consumer toaster oven on the market. Its closest rival only has 1500 watts.
Element IQ Smart Cooking. There are 4 heating rods in the Breville Smart Oven BOV650XL, and Element IQ can control each independently. That means you always get the perfect temperature setting for different types of cooking.
Quartz Heating Rods. Quartz is much better at responding to temperature changes. It makes pre heating much faster. Also, if you raise or lower the temperature, the quartz rods will respond fast. It maintains temperature much better results in more consistent and even cooking.
Easy To Use Controls. Other toaster ovens have whole bunch of buttons and a small black and gray screen. It’s like working on a really old and confusing machine. Breville uses big dials, and a right, dual color LCD. Everything is label clearly. A lot of thought was obviously put into the design.
Hassle Free Cleaning. You get easy access to the crumb tray…which is right at the front. Slide it out, wipe it down, and you are done. Other models have the crumb tray in the BACK? Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be fired. You have to pick up the oven, turn it around, every time you want to empty it out. The Breville Smart Oven BOV650XL also has a non stick coating on the inside of the oven. Very easy to clean, because nothing sticks.
Modern Look. Are you writing home to mom about your toaster oven? I doubt it, but you will with the Breville. It looks like it belongs in some upscale restaurant’s kitchen. Its all stainless steel design will make you want to show it off to your guests.
There is no convection. If you want convection, I suggest you take a look at Breville BOV800XL Toaster Oven. For this compact smart oven, you really don’t need convection. Especially when it’s pack with all the advanced technology, and 1800 watts of heating power.
The outside gets a little warm. I personally don’t see any problems with it, but it’s been mentioned a couple of time, so I thought I’d bring it up. In the manual, you’ll see that Breville suggest at least 4 inches of clearance. You can also use the top of the oven to warm up plates before serving.
Which Store Has It?
There are a few stores that sell this particular model, Amazon.com, and Zappos.com are the top two I’d recommend. Especially Zappos.com. They are known as a shoe retailer, and since I’m a guy, I don’t buy shoes online. It’s not until recently I saw they sell Home and Kitchen items as well.
I was very excited, because of Zappos’ legendary reputation for extremely great customer service. And the fact that their price is also really cheap helps. You will get two way free shipping from Zappos (Amazon only has one way free shipping), and 365 day return policy (Amazon has only 30 days).
I think Amazon’s price might be tiny bit cheaper, if that’s the case, I suggest you go ahead check out both Zappos.com and Amazon.com It’s worth it, trust the millions of customer who absolutely love them.
As I mentioned earlier, this is a very condensed review. It covers the major features so you get an idea. If you feel like you need more information, feel free to check out my full and complete Breville BOV650xl Compact 4-slice Smart Oven with Element IQ.
